I think I’m going to start a new tag called “places I see comic-sans” today I saw it at Old Navy.

Nice! This is exactly the marketing I wanted to see! I might just buy a box! But Mike’s? Or Ike’s?

neil-gaiman:

I gave my first ever commencement speech to the graduating class of 2012 at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

I think I told them everything important that I knew about going out into the world and being an artist, so I may never need to give another one.

One of my biggest inspirations, I learned of Mr. Gaiman from Sandman which I read at the age of 14. It terrified me, as you would suspect if you’ve ever read the series, and I thought I would be punished for reading it, since it was clearly a comic for more mature audiences. At first I only looked at the pictures and read select chapters that looked less frightening. I especially love Death, despite well…being Death. I didn’t dare even touch A Game of You, and I never checked any of the books out of the library. But soon I began reading the whole series, and one day gained enough courage to check the books out. The Librarian either wasn’t concerned with the mature content in the book, or had no idea what she was letting me check out so I got away with it (do librarians even bother with censorship?). Though some of the subject matter was gruesome, I always felt it was telling me a truth that I must come to understand about the world. I believe Sandman helped me grow up. Later when I was in college, the library where I read Sandman decided to sell most of their graphic novel sections, including all of the Sandman comics. I found out too late, but managed to find the first one, Preludes & Nocturnes, at a book sale. The exact one from the library, and I’ve never cherished something so much.

Daily Graffiti: Not sure if this Spider-Man piece spotted by a real tomato is actual graffiti or the latest example of corporate marketing infiltrating street art culture, but it’s pretty cool looking, so I’m okay with it.
Check out the DAILY GRAFFITI ARCHIVES for more geektastic street art!

Graffiti marketing campaign? I’d be ok with this.

Tired of Numbers by Mac Funamizu via Yanko Design.

Mac Funamizu names his newest project a little too well, calling the desktop hygrometer and thermometer “Tired of Numbers.” Yanko Design is, incase you were unaware, primarily a blog about design concepts. Project after project, time after time, Mac Funamizu defines the Yanko motto: “Form Beyond Function.” And I mean that in as positive a manner as possible!

These objects are pretty self-explainitory, with the exception of a detail from Mac: “Red circles become blue when the temperature becomes negative.” Wild ideas! I wouldn’t mind the temp one for my desk. These were probably thought of about 15 years too late. They’d have been right at home amongst the rest of the colored-water objects sold at the fun-science stores in the Mall of America all that time ago.
